Educating Our Kids About Driver Awareness

A little something different. After watching this movie - based on the True Story, (The 5th Quarter) If you have not seen it, definately a good movie, but have the tissue box near by and ready for flooding tears.. :'(  I wanted to post this site that was tributed to Luke Abbate.

If you have children getting ready to get their license or who have their license. If you allow your children to drive with or ride with fellow friend drivers or if your considering it. This is an urge and a plea to you to please teach them about Driver Awareness. Across the country today on the climb are young drivers losing their life daily because of wreckless driving. Over 68,000 teenagers have died because of automobile related accidents in the past 10 years.

In 2008, around 4,000 teens died. In 2009 around 3,000 teens died and today the number is climbing.

Help get the message spread about "Driver Awareness." These precious lives are lost and in some instances wasted because of wrecklace driving... Our kids need to know and understand the value of life and how precious it really it. We only have one life and most of us only get the one chance before being called away home.

Things to know:

Among teen drivers, those at especially high risk for motor vehicle crashes are:

• Males: In 2006, the motor vehicle death rate for male drivers and passengers ages 15 to 19 was almost two times that of their female counterparts.
• Teens driving with teen passengers: The presence of teen passengers increases the crash risk of unsupervised teen drivers. This risk increases with the number of teen passengers.
• Newly licensed teens: Crash risk is particularly high during the first year that teenagers are eligible to drive.

Among these, over half were reported NOT wearing their seatbelt. Driver Awareness is so important. Look, being a strict parent who is willing to lay down the rules when it comes to teens driving, its not going to make you your childs best friend. But it will show them how much you truly love them.

Remember the fatal 5

• Failing to yield
• Not adjusting to weather or darkness
• Tailgating
• Speeding and seat belt policies
• Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Above all else, Remember our children are Gods children. He love them and us FIRST. We are all a lend to this earth and to eachother. When God is ready, He will make the final call to us for home.

A poem to all parents who lost a blessed child:

"I'll lend you for a while a child of mine," He said.
"For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years, or twenty-two or three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,

What factors put teen drivers at risk?

• Teens are more likely than older drivers to underestimate dangerous situations or not be able to recognize hazardous situations.
• Teens are more likely than older drivers to speed and allow shorter headways (the distance from the front of one vehicle to the front of the next). The presence of male teenage passengers increases the likelihood of this risky driving behavior.
• In 2008, 25% of drivers ages 15 to 20 who died in motor vehicle crashes had a BAC of 0.08 g/dl or higher.
