Word of The Year

Last year was a difficult year for our family, as have been the last three years. We have had roller coaster rides between family members having failing health and one particular member that just seems to keep getting worse. So our family had some very trying times over the last three years. As we came upon the end of the year and braced for the new year I started praying for relief of the burdens we carried on our shoulders and for this year to be a year of growth and peace for our family. After Christmas I started working on a booklet about prayer to use with our homeschool curriculum.

As we got closer to the New Year celebrations our family member that seems to be getting worse was rushed back in to the hospital. Lately it seems like we are constantly going through something testing our strengths. For our family personally I started feeling like 2019 was going to be our year of TRUSTing Him. -- "TRUST!" -- That is easy at times and very very hard at other times. Learning to TRUST Him in all times with everything, even the ginormous things can be rather scary and very difficult. I am constantly reminding myself that nothing is to big for God.

Did you know the bible mentions the word "Trust" about 134 times? That is a lot of encouraging reminders to trust him. Right now we need all of the encouraging reminders with the continual health battles through out our family, our son-in-law is in the military and our daughter just informed us that she is going in to continue her medic training and follow our son-in-law. While we are so very proud of her and we knew this was coming we just didn't know when. The timing seems to bombard us with everything running together. Gods timing is everything and we know that he knows what he is doing. Whew! For our family personally, "Trust" is our word to hold on to for 2019 year.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
 ~ Proverbs 3:5-6

Recently I joined back up with the TOS Review Crew. I was surprised when I check back with our crew and seen they had a link up for Word of The Year. After a couple of days of pondering about our homeschool year and what should our word be I felt like our word was to be "PATIENCE". Did you know the word Patience is mentioned 33 times in the Bible?

When I looked up the best definition of patience this is what I found:
  •  the ability or willingness to suppress restlessness, loss of temper, irritation or annoyance when confronted with delay, to have patience with a slow learner.
OUCH!
Did you know the word 'Patience' is also connected with the words:
Trust, Hope, Faith, Love and Good Character.

( Eph. 4:2, Proverbs 15:18, Romans 12:12, Psalm 40:1, Lame. 3:25-27, Eccl. 7:8,
1 Corinth. 13:4, 2 Peter 1:5-8, Col. 3:13, James 5:8 )

How perfect is this word for 2019? Not only did this word coincide with our family word 'trust", but boy did it speak to each one of us individual about our school year. We often have a tendency to be impatient with certain subjects and even with each other. The phrase patience is a virtue is often used in our school.

"In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone."      ~ 2 Peter 1:5-7
How appropriate for this year and for our family. To start our year out each one of us has our own notebook/journal we are using to journal our frustrations, life lessons and scriptures to help carry and encourage us through out the year. If you were given a word for 2019 for your self, family or school year I would love to hear about your word.

Here is to the new year, to new beginning, adventures and life lessons.

Happy Schooling!
