Life in our house has been crazy and on the go off and on for the last three years while caring for a family member. We have had memberships in the past with SchoolhouseTeachers and our family liked the site and all it had to offer. Fast forward to today, we have had a membership for the last year or so with SchoolhouseTeachers.com. Again using the site as a go to source or fill in for certain subjects while we were on the go. As things started winding down we decided to join back on the review crew and start a new year and more adventures in our homeschool journey. A lot has changed on the site over the last few years and the changes just keep coming. Who is SchoolhouseTeachers? SchoolhouseTeachers is an online educational site for children PreK-12th grade. With over 400+ lessons online that include learning through the Bible, Health and Fitness, Geography, Foreign Languages, Music, Unit Studies, Electives, Science lessons and more. Each course has a course outline, how to use the course, download lessons as well as information about the teacher and a contact button should you have any questions you can email the teacher. The site is full of resources and help aids for parents to help navigate them through the homeschool journey.
There are resources for High School, College Planning and Special Needs. There are other resources like the Focused Learning Centers which offers help in areas like Math, Reading, Foreign Languages, Special Needs, High School and College planning. The learning centers help direct parents to courses and individual lessons or articles that help parents teach their children in the subjects they may be struggling in.
Not only is SchoolhouseTeachers.com loaded with various subjects and lessons for all ages, with your families purchase of a membership you will have free access to hundreds of videos streamed online. Providers include Drive Thru History, Discovery House, City on a Hill, Creation.com and others. Your membership will also include a subscription to access various World Book Online libraries. If you are unfamiliar with World Book no problem. There is a tutorial that will walk you through World Book site. There is a lot to like about this site. If you need a planner, they have planner pages you can download. If you need transcripts, you can print off copies of transcripts or you can use the APPLECORE Record keeping which tracks student courses, attendance and includes grade reporting, report cards and portfolios.
For us we honestly have been bouncing all over the site. We used a couple of the holiday unit lessons, more recently the MLK unit study. We are getting ready to begin the Analyzing Literature course. I was just on recently downloading lessons and getting my planner ready for the coming week. Right now my middle daughter is currently working through the MUSIC Theory I & II.
My daughter recently started learning to properly play the piano, she can play most any song by ear teaching herself. Speaking with a piano teacher at a local church she encouraged my daughter to take lessons with her so she could learn to properly play the piano as well as help her with composing the songs she has put together herself. Her Music teacher wants her to learn about Music Theory along side of her lessons. So the Music Theory I & II is going right along with her piano lessons. Some of the lessons we have done are a recap to what she has already learned and other lessons are newer lessons that she is learning in with what her piano teacher is adding. I can't wait to see the end results.
One thing I like about the beginning of the course is that the teacher has given us a check list covering the lessons to bother courses and we can include in with our planner.
Each lesson we do can be ✔ off the list as we complete it.
Music Theory I has lessons that instruct students in the understanding of notes, tempo, dynamics, rests and more. Students will learn to read and interpret music while reviewing and listening to the examples given in each lesson. The Music Theory I course has 16 lessons and the students can earn one-half of a high school credit in Music Theory.
Music Theory II continues where Theory I left off. The lessons take students deeper in reading notes and notations that give meaning to the notes. As we further in to the second half of Music Theory students will learn more about harmonic and melodic intervals, time signatures, key signatures and more. Just like with Music Theory I, at the end of the second course students can earn one-half high school credit. After completing the Music Theory Course you have the option to download a completion certificate for your student which is located up at the top of the course page.
