Stopmotion Explosion Review

We did a review recently for Stopmotion Explosion. This is a great product for kids who are in to art, movie making and animations.

For this review we were sent the Stop Motion Animation Kit. This kit is a great starter kit that will teach your students to learn the techniques used to make movies with action figures, LEGO's and other materials. The kit includes 2 booklet manuals. One of the manuals is a in-depth instruction manual with around 300 pages that covers topics like Lighting, Camera, Animation Actors, Background Stage, Sound, Editing and more. The other manual is a quick start 12-page guide that quickly shows you how to get started. There is a cd that you can download the program on to your computer, although it is not required since you can download the program from their web site. It also includes a HD camera and the program is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 & OS X 7.5.

So this review was painfully and hilariously fun. Our laptop was being a turd with the program but we finally got it to cooperate and connect to our windows movie maker program. The movie maker was giving slight issues off an on otherwise we did not have many other issues. I promise you my 14 year old daughter was more then super excited about this review. She is an awesome artist with a creative mind. She has a dream to either compose music for animations and movies or create animations with her drawings later in life. So getting to use this program was huge for her. I forgot to take a few pictures of her working on the program. I really just give her the space she needed to focus and work. She didn't want anyone to see her trailer until she was finished.

Earlier on she struggled slightly with a story line mostly due to the passing of a family member, but she was able to get her focus back and decided to do a trailer to a future war movie she wants to do. She decided to test run her trailer using her 13 year old brothers Transformer action figures. Yes, I promise you the voice of the transformers is none other then my 13 yo son. My daughter found an audio enhancing button in the movie maker that helped boost and change the voice closer to a characters voice. My son loved every minute of his voice performing.

Using the stopmotion program was fairly easy once we got the hang of it. Just download the program, plug the camera up and open the program up to begin your project. The only thing I or my husband did was walk our 14 year old daughter through the instructions and if she had a question or was puzzled she asked dad for direction. (Both of them are plotting a Star Wars short film down the road).

She did spend hours and I mean hours perfecting the edit part. You can't tell it but she used around 400 pictures to get her characters to do what she wanted and added LED lighting from a flashlight to certain parts. She also spent a couple days working on the background to her animation. I told her it was ok not to stress doing this, it is a trial run for fun. But... In her own words, “She is an artist and an artist is a perfectionist,” to some extent. So she really put herself in to this project and we hope you enjoy her fun with the autobots. I am truly amazed with this product and how well she did doing this. It at first seems like it is going to be over the head but once you get going it really is an easy product to use.
