Memoria Press Review

Our Memoria Press Review

My oldest daughter (now graduated) was able to review for Memoria Press a few years back and she enjoyed the curriculum. In fact it was that review that got us into using the Memoria Pres curriculum with my kiddo's now. We have previously used Prima Latina and Latina Christiana and my kids enjoyed using the material. So when this review came up we were eager to use the material offered.

We received the complete set of the  First Form Latin curriculum. The First Form Latin is the foundation for the study of Latin. This particular curriculum is best to be used after Latina Christiana. The grammar first approach works on vocabulary and grammar skills and despite the age of the student, all beginners are in the grammar stage of learning. This material came with a teachers manual, test booklet, answer key, student text and workbook, instructional dvd and grammar disc.

We started out using this a couple days a week. Starting first with watching the dvd lessons. Each lesson on the dvd is around twenty minutes. The lessons are very detailed and easily explained and include lesson diagrams, reciting and on screen notes, (great for note takers). The student workbook lessons cover exercises on translations, word study, conjugation and the grammar. Each lesson ends on an enrichment study exercise that recaps the weeks lesson and Latin sayings.

My daughter used the flash cards with a note book and as she studied over the words she would say the word out loud, then properly write the word down and define it on paper. We have used material from Memoria Press for a few years now. When we started it was the Prima Latina. To be honest if you are new using Latin, I would recommend using the material in order, not out of order. I only note this because if you are new to learning Latin it could easily be intimidating and overwhelming. By learning the material in order you are covering everything from the beginning. Also noting that there is some curriculum that can be used at any grade level and other curriculum it is just best to be used in order. This is one of those curriculum I feel better saying it is best to be used in order.

With the extra help aids, this may not be the case for everyone. Another my daughter wanted me to add is that learning Latin will help your student immensely on building proper grammar skills and pronunciation. We will continue to use the Memoria Press products as we complete each grade level. Unfortunately, this was one of the reviews that was interrupted when my family member was taken to the hospital and unfortunately she passed away so we were not able to complete all of what we needed to do for this review. We aim to continue on now as things get back to normal and we will complete the entire curriculum.
